Russia’s REVONTULET released their debut full-length album, Hear Me, in January and are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the symphonic metal realm. The vocals by Alexandra Revontulet are mind-blowing and she alone is worth the price of admission. Most of Revontulet’s music is piano driven with guitars and other symphonic elements added in. Tracks like ‘The Pianist Of The Darkest Night’, ‘Blizzard’, and ‘Eternal Autumn’ are filled with such grace and are grandiose in scope, but remain under control and are wrapped up in a neat package that does not come undone.

But the real star of the show is the singer Revontulet, as her operatic, vibrant tone is elegant and absolutely stunning, adding much color to the music while also bringing a melancholic touch to solemn songs like ‘Suomi’ and ‘Velvet Night’. The band namesake really brings the music to another level and should quickly become one of the premiere vocalists in the scene. Revontulet’s music is the perfect complement to a cold, snowy night in the middle of December with its wintry atmosphere. The orchestral passages are well done and all the musicians are experts in their craft as Hear Me is an impressive display of power/symphonic metal. The future is looking bright for Revontulet.
